After walking all day yesturday, up and down many stairs, I woke up after a long night's sleep to being all creaky and a little sunburnt. What is it about Buddhism that requires the walking up a gazillion stone stairs to reach the temple? Is there no elightenment without pain? (I could probably answer this, no need to comment, Maria.) Anyway it is good for the peanut I'm sure. He's is over his jetlag and practicing his Judo in my belly. As I think I mentioned - on Friday the lab group here at Tokyo U threw me a welcome party. It was also a party for the man standing third in from the right. He has just received his PhD and got married on June 21 (good day!). The group is very international with representatives from Korea, Turkey, Vietnam, China, as well as Japan. Kinda like UM! Professor Shiohara is standing to the left of me in the blue shirt and khakis. All of them are very nice and have been very welcoming. Naori isn't in the pic because she is taking it, but she has gone out of her way to befriend me and has been very kind. I am grateful that I got in with a good group of students both from Japan and the ones I am traveling with from the US. It makes the time away from home easier.

Looks like a fun weekend - but you have to go back to work tomorrow! (which for you is already today, confusing, huh?) But we back here have a 4 day weekend in store! (although I'm sure that there's some holiday coming up that you will get but we don't)
That's just not fair!!! ARGH! Have some fun for me and let it involve explosives!
BOOM
...best I could do via blog, E.
We'll be thinking of you on the 4th, but I gave my 4-year-old nephew my only sparkelers.
Would you be terribly disappointed in us if it were just the lame Michigan-legal fireworks? Last I knew my source for the good stuff blew up his own facility rather than be raided by the ATF.
It's the least we can do for loaning Aaron to us. We're talking Independence day eats via voice mail.
Turns out we didn't even have to go out to see fireworks - seems like EVERYONE in our neighborhood stopped by the out-of-state-fireworks tent and loaded up - it sounded like a war zone - they were still going on past midnight, hard to get to sleep
I found out they have fireworks here on the 23rd. Except here they do them regularly in July and August and the shows go on for 60 or more minutes. They do everything over the top here!! At least I'll get my fix.
